In general, it aims to reconcile potential competing land uses while protecting and conserving both natural and cultural processes and resources to ensure sustainable development. Through careful landscape planning it is possible to make the lightest imprint upon a landscape which brings a tangible benefit to the quality of people’s lives and the environment. More often a substantial change to the environment is as a result of potential development and this is where consideration of all the natural and cultural processes at work come to fruition to understand the landscapes’ capacity to accommodate change.
